Museo Memoria y Tolerancia

Tolerance is the harmonic relation of our differences
Un manto de luces como metáfora
de quienes desean vivir con claridad
The events of the last three days led me to reflect, from a different perspective, the reasons, if any exists, for aggression and indifference that suddenly is able to erase any past affection. Combat against negative emotions becomes an urgent task, especially when we enter adulthood. Stop! Enough!
I was looking still the reasons, that exactly not nest in the reason, when I passed in front of Museo Memoria y Tolerancia.
The tour starts in the upper level. The visitor starts to down in spiral. Within the maze of information through displays, objects, photographs, newspaper clippings, belongings of the victims and videos,  show us a cruel piece of the past that we all wish it had not happened.
The Jewish Holocaust. The horror and genocide in Cambodia, Yugoslavia, Guatemala... And far from losing the soul in the dark field of sadness, memories become hope, because if we open the eyes of the heart, there is hope.

My uncle and my father were sent to Mexico because my grandmother feared for his eldest son, in case of Spain should enter as ally of Germany in World War II. Without asking the opinion embarked to America. My father said goodbye to my grandfather: "Do not mess ever in politics or religion" was one of the tips. They never met again.
The horrors of the Spanish Civil War, where the Nazis experimented weapons, strategies, methods of interrogation and other aberrations, are not counted in the museum. Many events are omitted because it would take dozens of rooms for each of them and show the dark side of the human spirit. Either way, the Holocaust is sufficient example.
Thats why  the value of the memory and the need for tolerance. "Choose your attitude: commitment or indifference." Combat the negative emotions that lead to destruction. Be tolerat. The oblivion can lead to repetition.
"There, where they burn books, in the end burn human beings". Heinrich Heine
When tolerance is listed as one of the solutions, we are shown a fireplace where you can come in and watch up a rectangle of light at the top. The metaphor is poignant. Respect. Harmony. Love. Compassion. International humanist efforts. The richness of diversity in the service of human development. Seem distant, but possible.

An excellent work of museology. An architecture that influences mood, since the gloom of tragedy leads to the light of hope.

Finally, we visited the temporary exhibition about press freedom.

Leaving the museum, walked to the Paseo de la Reforma. The saturday life  overflowed and ran down, thru avenue. People walked in all directions and I stopped, for a few moments, to feel my pulse, the pulse of the city, and  took the photograph.
The place occupied for long, for the ancient monument in honor of Carlos IV of Spain, at the corner of Paseo de la Reforma and Bucareli, now is occupied by a statue called El Caballito of the sculptor Enrique Carbajal (Sebastián). Back, intelligent building called: Caballito Tower.

No volvieron a encontrarse.

It only needs very few things for compassion to change into hate and distruction. It only needs the indifference of the persons you loved and trusted most, it only needs that they let you down without explanations, leaving you burn in the eternal fire of your own thoughts, your disappointment, your betrayed feelings and trust. It only needs you to feel, how much power he has on you to destroy you, because you trusted him. It doesn't help to say "Basta, enough! Be an adult!" You can try to combat, as you say, the distructive, bad feelings. You can try to put them in a box and put a lid. But once in a while, when the guard is weekended, the box will eventually open. Or, if the guard is strong enough, you will be destroyed from inside by the feelings, the other doesn't discuss with you. Love and hate are very very close. Behind every murderer is someone who has been let down once by an important person in his life. Behind every Hitler there is someone, whom others didn't aknowledge his value in other, not distructive, forms of expression.
